Stan Lee Hollywood Tribute to Include Kevin Smith & Mark Hamill
Fans and friends of Stan Lee will gather Wednesday, Jan. 30, in Hollywood for a tribute to the comic book legend, who died in November at age 95.
Hosted by Kevin Smith, “Excelsior! A Celebration of the Amazing, Fantastic, Incredible & Uncanny Life of Stan Lee,” will be held at the TCL Chinese Theatre. All proceeds of the event will benefit The Hero Initiative, a charity dedicated to helping comic book creators in need.
The tribute event will feature speakers, an art exhibit, select costumes and props, a musical performance and a moment of remembrance. After a red carpet arrival of guests, the private tribute will proceed inside the IMAX Theatre. Smith will moderate conversations with Mark Hamill, Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld, longtime Batman producer Michael Uslan, Daredevil star Vincent D’Onofrio, X-Men producer Tom DeSanto, and Wu-Tang's RZA. The evening will be rounded off with video tributes and live performances of Lee's favorite music and poetry.
“Thank you, Stan, for making me not only the boy I was but also the man I am today," Smith said in a statement. "You had great power and you always used it responsibly, fostering billions of dreamers who all know your name -- a name written in the stars for all time. You were not just the literary titan of comic books, you were our modern-day Mark Twain.”
A limited number of tickets will be available for purchase beginning today at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT from the fan-owned entertainment company Legion M. The event is organized by Smith, Legion M and Agents of Mayhem, in partnership with POW! Entertainment, the company co-founded by Lee.
