Unveiling of Robert Smalls Black History Mural
Team Defiant has been working hard to get the word out about our incredible project and the man himself — Robert Smalls. So we are unbelievably honored to announce that Smalls will be included in the Black History Mural Project event being organized by the Shining Light Foundation. This remarkable project involves painting 28 murals representing the 28 days of Black History Month and was created to help highlight the major contributions of Black individuals and the impact they have had on our country.
Work on the Robert Smalls mural, which will be painted on the wall of the East Point City Council Chambers at 2757 E Point St, East Point, GA has already started. The finished art will be fully unveiled at a public event on February 3rd, which will be preceded by a short ceremony featuring Defiant producer Marvin Jones III (whose excitement and passion for this project helped make this all possible) and a special video message from Smalls’ great-great-grandson, Michael Boulware Moore. The celebration begins at 10:30am ET, but if you were unable to get tickets to the ceremony event – no worries! The public mural unveiling will be open to everyone, no ticket required.
PS… If you are going to be in the area this week (from 8:30a to 5:30p though 1/31) you can catch a sneak peek of the artists working on this incredible piece. If you do head out, be sure to grab some pics and/or video. If you post to social, tag @legionmofficial —we'd love to see them!
