Massive "DEFIANT" Graphic Novel News!

We have some massive updates on DEFIANT, the project we have in development based on the true story of Robert Smalls — the enslaved man who not only commandeered a Confederate warship in 1862 and sailed it to freedom (saving the lives of his family and friends), but also went on to Captain the vessel for the Union Army, serve multiple terms in Congress, and SO MUCH MORE! Seriously… this guy was an absolute badass, and we are honored to be working to bring his legacy to life!

As you know, this is a very ambitious project and by now you may have heard that, on our path to getting his story told, we are starting off with a graphic novel that chronicles Robert Smalls’ epic journey with the goal of turning it into a feature film. Which is why we are extremely excited to announce some MARVELOUS additions to the project’s creative team, along with details on how get your copy of the DEFIANT: THE STORY OF ROBERT SMALLS graphic novel.

We are so excited for Nikolas, Ray, and Chris to be joining Rob and the rest of our amazing team, which also includes producers Bill Duke, Michael Boulware Moore (Robert Smalls’ great-great-grandson), Marvin Jones III, Robert Blake Whitehill, and Chris Cooper.

Because Robert Smalls’ legacy is too incredible to fit within just one book, the graphic novel will span 4 separate comic issues — each chronicling a different aspect of his journey. But That's Not All

We said massive update and we meant it! Because to celebrate the launch of the DEFIANT: THE STORY OF ROBERT SMALLS graphic novel we’re going all out at San Diego Comic-Con. We’ll start with an awesome Comic-Con Panel (Date/Time TBD), where we will introduce the project and our A-List Team, provide a status update, and have an audience Q&A. If you can’t make the panel, don't worry because we’re following up with an incredible Launch Party on Saturday, July 22nd!

To mark this momentous occasion, we’re taking to the water and celebrating aboard the historic Berkeley steamship in downtown San Diego. While on board, guests will meet members of the all-star creative team (and other special guests), while enjoying light food and drinks under the stars.
