NEWS FROM AROUND THE LEGION
MICAHEL BOULWARE MOORE JOINS DEFIANT
Legion M is thrilled to welcome Michael Boulware Moore, the great-great-grandson of Robert Smalls, to team DEFIANT as an associate producer and creative collaborator on historical accuracy! DEFIANT is the story of Captain Robert Smalls, an enslaved person who stole a Confederate warship in 1862 and went on to become a naval hero for the Union in the American Civil War. An engaged business and community leader, named to Charleston Business Magazine’s "50 Most Influential" list, Michael has given numerous lectures, inspiring thousands of people with the Robert Smalls story, making him the most notable and credible spokesperson for the family. If you haven’t already seen it, his TEDx Talk “The Audacity of Robert Smalls” is a must watch.
YOU CAN CALL ME BILL HEADED TO SXSW
Our documentary starring William Shatner is nearing escape velocity. First, after only 4 days, we funded the entire $750,000 budget for the fan-owned feature. A few days later, we were thrilled to announce that the film will premiere at the historic Paramount Theatre during the prestigious SXSW Film Festival in Austin, TX this March.
SEE YOU ON THE RED CARPET
We've had hundreds of people express interest in attending the premiere of You Can Call Me Bill, and we’re fortunate to have secured a large number of Film Guest Tickets for our investors to attend the premiere for free! We will have a random drawing to allocate the tickets, so if you signed up to attend, we suggest you keep an eye on your inbox (and spam folders, if necessary) so you can RSVP as soon as possible if you do score one. If you haven’t received an invitation yet, don't lose hope! There is still a chance that you may see one show up in your inbox soon.
NOTE: If selected to attend, you will receive two different invites via email (to two separate events)—please make sure you RSVP to both. If you aren't seeing a second invite, email team@legionm.com and we can resend it for you.
GENERAL ADMISSION TO YOU CAN CALL ME BILL PREMIERE
In the meantime, if you don’t want to take a chance with fate, there are a limited number of General Admission tickets to the premiere screening on sale now from the venue.
NOTE: These General Admission tickets do not guarantee entry—they give you access to the “general admission” line, which will be admitted into the screening on a “space available” basis. Fortunately the Paramount Theatre is the largest venue at the festival and we hope nobody will have trouble getting in. If for any reason you buy a ticket and the venue reaches capacity before you can make it in, they will refund the ticket price. If you signed up for a ticket from Legion M, but decide to buy a general admission ticket from the venue instead, please email team@legionm.com and let us know.
SCOUT FILMS AT SXSW
FILM SCOUT is the Legion M app that allows our community to rate and rank movies at film festivals like SXSW. The insight gained from our community via FILM SCOUT has led to the acquisition of two films, Memory: The Origins of Alien at Sundance 2019, and Save Yourselves! at Sundance 2020. There’s also a bit of poetic symmetry here– director Alexandre O. Philippe and Exhibit A Pictures (the creative masterminds behind You Can Call Me Bill) are the same team that produced MEMORY. Full circle! We’ll have more details soon but the program should be ready to go in the next few days, so stay tuned!
