Variety names MDFZ one of the hottest films @ SXSW
The world famous SXSW Film Festival begins Friday in Austin, TX and Saturday afternoon marks the world premiere of Legion M's new feature film My Dead Friend Zoe. Earlier this week, Variety released an in depth profile of the film’s Bronze Star combat veteran turned director Kyle Hausmann-Stokes, in which they said:
The semi-autobiographical movie — which stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Natalie Morales, Ed Harris and Morgan Freeman — premieres on March 9 at SXSW, where it lands as perhaps the hottest film title up for grabs, with CAA selling rights.
The article also mentions one of the film's highest profile investors -- Travis Kelce of the Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs (and boyfriend of Taylor Swift) -- along with the fact that the majority of the financing came from our energized Legion M community through direct investments into the film. We are beyond grateful for their support..
We couldn’t be more proud of this film, or more excited to unveil it to the world at SXSW. We talk all the time about the fact that “every film is a roll of the dice”, and while it’s too early for us to know how this film will work out, these early signs of traction should give all of us a great deal of pride. We’ve worked extremely hard to get to this point, and we’re taking our best swing of the bat. Now we need to see where the ball lands.
No matter what happens, this film is another HUGE step forward for Legion M. This movie and the William Shatner documentary (in theaters March 22) are the first two Legion M projects that were financed, produced and are owned by Legion M. They represent the beginning of a new era for our company, and a foundation for what is to come.
This is our film. This is our moment. Let’s make the most of it!
