NIMRODS Box Office Recap and FAQ

NIMRODS is officially in theaters, and it's time for our opening weekend box office recap. We're laying it out FAQ-style so you can jump straight to whatever you're most curious about.

How are the reviews?

The movie has been very well received. Our Rotten Tomatoes score is 75% / 94% (critics/audience), and our Letterboxd score is 3.6 with nearly 12,000 reviews. We’ve had the opportunity to watch this movie with hundreds of Legion M investors, and the feedback from them has all been very positive. I think it’s a movie we can all be very proud to have as part of our portfolio.

What are the numbers?

Inaugural (our release partner) hasn't officially reported yet, but we can share some unofficial figures: over its opening weekend (including the Tuesday night advance screenings), NIMRODS earned $910,110 from 1,012 theaters — a per-theater average of just under $900. Note that not all of these screens had full schedules – over 50% had “split schedules” with less than 5 shows a day. See below for more about that.

Is that good or bad?

Honestly? It's in the middle. We always want more — and we always will — but it could have been much, much worse. For context, here's how NIMRODS stacks up against our last three theatrical releases:

As you can see, NIMRODS delivered our biggest opening weekend yet and our second-highest per-theater average. We weren’t a hit, but didn’t flop. In the context of independent film releasing in 2026, this result is about par.

What’s Legion M’s role in Nimrods?

We invested alongside with Inaugural Entertainment as a distribution partner, rallied the Legion M community, managed several promotional initiatives, helped support the premiere in multiple ways, and generally plugged in wherever we could add value. We put up about 25% of the money (via the Film Fund) to release the film, and will receive about the same % share of net revenue received by distribution. First dollars go to Film Fund investors until they’ve recouped principle and profit – everything after that is retained by Legion M.

What does this mean for Film Fund investors?

It's a decent result. Costs on this release are comparable to Fackham Hall, and NIMRODS opened roughly 45% ahead of Fackham Hall at the box office, so we're ahead at this stage. That said, the SVOD deals on the two films are different, which means — like many independent films in 2026 — the battle for profitability will be won or lost on VOD. And we’ve got a lot of reasons to be optimistic about that.

Either way, the "last-in, first-out" structure of the Film Fund means NIMRODS revenue flows to Film Fund investors first. There’s still risk, but we believe Film Fund investors are well positioned to recoup their principal and receive full profits from NIMRODS over time.

BTW, there’s still time to invest in NIMRODS via the Film Fund, but the offering is close to sold out. For more information, please check out the offering page

What does this mean for Legion M investors?

Legion M participates alongside the Film Fund in the economics of this project. While the Film Fund investors get paid first, their upside is capped. Profits beyond that cap are retained by Legion M for the life of the distribution contract. While it’s too early to know for sure, we believe Legion M is well positioned to earn back our investment, plus a premium, and create another ongoing revenue stream for the company.

This is all in addition to the strategic value the project creates for Legion M. Like so many of our previous projects, it has allowed us to grow our community and level-up our capabilities as we continue our march to make it to the top of the mountain!

Theaters are busy right now. Is that good or bad?

Both! The box office is VERY strong at the moment. Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey are both enjoying historically strong runs. This is great for the industry, great for theaters, and great for fans.

That said, for smaller films releasing at the same time, it makes screens harder to come by.

Case in point: because of the competition, about half of our 1,012 theaters gave NIMRODS a "split schedule." Instead of owning a screen outright with five showtimes a day, NIMRODS got two or three. Split-schedule ticket sales still count toward our topline number – two or three showtimes is better than none – but they can also drag down our per-theater average, which can make it harder to hold onto screens.

Bottom line – we’d rather the box office be busy than dying. It makes for greater competition, but we think that’s a good thing.

Where does NIMRODS go from here?

Competition for screens is still fierce. Next week brings seven more wide releases — Insidious: Out of the Further, The Magic Faraway Tree, Mutiny, Spa Weekend, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, the 25th-anniversary re-release of The Fast and the Furious, and Tony — plus the moderate release Hot Spot (800 runs) and two Hindi titles. On top of that, Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey continue to dominate, combining for roughly $101 million this weekend alone.

Every multiplex in the country is deciding which films keep a screen and which have to go. Our theatrical team is fighting tooth and nail to hold as many as we can, but we're clear-eyed about expectations. We should know more later this week.

In the meantime we'll have more to share about the VOD release soon, and we're hopeful the momentum — and the genuinely good word of mouth on this movie — carries through.
