Wow, what a week! On behalf of the entire DEFIANT and Legion M teams, we want to express our deepest gratitude for your incredible support and dedication during Comic-Con 2025. This was a week for the history books, and frankly, a perfect wrap to all our hard work.
Our Comic-Con Panel: Celebrating a Success Story!
To the hundreds of loyal Legion M investors, Kickstarter backers, and new faces who packed our panel, thank you! It was a true honor to share Robert Smalls' incredible story with you.
Hearing firsthand from Robert Smalls' direct descendant, Michael Boulware Moore, was a powerful reminder of the legacy we’re working to honor. Writer Rob Edwards (Captain America: Brave New World and The Princess and the Frog) and producer Marvin Jones (Black Lightning) brought the creative journey of DEFIANT to life, offering insights into how this project came together and where it's headed next.
The success of the panel and this project is a testament to the power of Robert’s story and the passion of this community. We were thrilled to dive into the making of the graphic novel, share that a feature film is in development, and introduce you to the remarkable team bringing it all to life.
The Graphic Novel: A Sell-Out Sensation
Thanks to your amazing support, our Comic-Con exclusive Ray Anthony Height edition of the Shaft homage cover is completely SOLD OUT! This is a fantastic achievement that speaks volumes about the excitement for this story. In fact, due to the overwhelming demand for the original graphic novel, we are now on our second printing, with the first printing still completely sold out.
The DEFIANT Team's Media Blitz
The team worked tirelessly to spread the word about the DEFIANT graphic novel's success with over 35 press interviews including a few major industry publications throughout the week! This includes our dedicated sessions with outlets like Den of Geek and Big Gold Belt Media, and a high-speed pressroom junket. This media blitz ensures that Robert Smalls' story will reach an even wider audience.
The DEFIANT After-Party: An Unforgettable Night
And what better way to celebrate than at our exclusive backer and investor release party at Villains. To everyone who joined us, thank you for making it a truly special and memorable evening. We loved raising a glass of our custom "Planter's Run" cocktail with you all. It was an honor to celebrate this milestone surrounded by so many instrumental to our journey.

Support Our Executive Producer, Bill Duke
Finally, on this August 1st (today), I wanted to share a new way you can support a key member of our DEFIANT family, the legendary Executive Producer Bill Duke. Bill and his team are launching a Kickstarter campaign to help offset the expense for Bill Duke to get his well-deserved star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! This is a chance to honor his legacy as a trailblazer in film and television, with a career spanning decades as both an iconic actor and director.
