Legion M at Comic-Con: What, Where, When, and WHY!

It’s that time of year! This week San Diego will once again become the center of the pop culture universe as over 150,000 people converge for 2024 Comic-Con International.

If you're not familiar with Comic-Con, the short video below provides a good introduction. It’s a bit dated, but the info is still good.

If you ever get the opportunity to go to Comic-Con in San Diego, we highly recommend it. It’s nearly impossible to get tickets (akin to a Super Bowl or Taylor Swift Concert), but if you are lucky enough to snag a pass, it’s a truly bucket-list experience. Comic-Con takes over not just the convention center, but the entire Gaslamp Quarter in downtown San Diego, as major studios and brands vie for the attention of fans at the world’s premier pop-culture event.

Legion M will once again have a booth (#4022) on the convention floor. This in itself is no small feat – we were on a waiting list for 6 years to get a space! We also have major panels and autograph signings for The Man In The White Van (coming out this fall) and Defiant: The Story of Robert Smalls (which continues to make progress towards our goal of making a movie!).

Legion M’s Paul Scanlan, David Baxter, Chris Cooper, Eric Lam, and Chris Black will be in attendance, bringing with them a slew of cast and creators including:

  • Sean Astin (Rudy, Stranger Things, The Lord of the Rings, The Man In The White Van)

  • Marvin Jones (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Halo, Black Lightning, Defiant: The Story of Robert Smalls)

  • Madison Wolfe (True Detective, The Conjuring 2, The Man In The White Van)

  • Brec Bassinger (Stargirl, The Man In The White Van)

  • Skai Jackson (Jessie, The Man In The White Van)

  • Gavin Warren (Night Swim, The Man In The White Van)

  • Writer Rob Edwards (The Princess and The Frog, Treasure Planet, Defiant: The Story of Robert Smalls)

  • Writer/Director Warren Skeels (Siesta Key, The Man In The White Van)

  • Artist Ray-Anthony Height (Studio SKYE-TIGER, Defiant: The Story of Robert Smalls)

  • Producer/Publisher Sebastian A Jones (Stranger Comics, Defiant: The Story of Robert Smalls)

Legion M's primary purpose in going to Comic-Con is to promote our projects. Relativity is providing funds from the marketing budget of The Man In The White Van because they, like most distributors, see Comic-Con as an unparalleled opportunity to earn press and authentic, grass-roots awareness.

Our booth on the show floor also provides Legion M with an opportunity to earn money selling merchandise. Expenses for conventions like this add up, but merchandise sales can subsidize those costs, providing Legion M with the fantastic promotional and networking opportunities these shows provide, while working within the scrappy budget of a company like Legion M.

Finally, Comic-Con represents a wonderful opportunity for the Legion M community to come together. We have deep roots at the show, starting with Legion M’s first ever meetup at a Tiki bar in 2016 – just a couple months after the company was formed. Since then we’ve hosted a string of unforgettable Legion M experiences with folks ranging from Stan Lee and Felicia Day to Minnie Driver and William Shatner. We’re looking forward to making the most of the incredible events we have planned for this year!

For a complete rundown of Legion M events and activities at Comic-Con, please check out this blog post. If you can’t make it to San Diego don't worry - we’ll provide a recap of everything after the event has concluded.

And for those fortunate enough to have passes…we hope to see you there!!

Onward and Upward!
