How can I bring the Shatner Doc to my theater?

One of the most common questions we get when a Legion M movie comes out is "will it be playing at a theater near me?" Far too frequently the response has been "we don’t know” or “somebody else is making that decision." Until now.

Our William Shatner documentary is coming to theaters March 22nd, and we're changing the game.

For the first time in Legion M's history, we have 100% control over the release of a film. We made this movie, we own all the rights (along with over 1,200 individual investors who invested directly in the film), and we control every aspect of the release. No longer are we beholden to a distributor who wants to play it safe with a small release in a handful of theaters. We get to release this film OUR WAY.

Our goal is to distribute this movie as far and wide as possible, but it’s important to understand that theatrical booking has a "chicken and the egg" problem: In order to sell tickets you need a theater to book the film. But in order for the theater to book the film, they need to know they can sell tickets.

It’s also important to recognize that it costs a lot of money to distribute films, and the last thing we want to do is waste shareholder funds by putting the film in theaters where there isn’t a strong base of people who want to see it.

Bottom line: If you want this movie to come to a theater near your, the best thing you can do is pre-buy a ticket today. Better yet, round up some friends and pre-buy tickets together. The more tickets we pre-sell in your area, the more likely we’ll be able to book a theater near you.

To sweeten the deal, we’ve worked with renowned poster illustrator Paul Shipper to create an epic set of six limited-edition release pins available for FREE with the purchase of any pre-sale ticket. Each ticket you buy comes with a randomly selected pin, and if you round up some friends to buy 6 or 12 packs, you’ll get complete matching sets of pins.

Best of all – everything is backed by a 100% money-back guarantee. If the movie isn’t booked near you, or if you change your mind for any reason, you can get your money back.

We realize this is an unorthodox approach – asking people to buy tickets months in advance for a movie that may not even come to their town. That said, this is one of the ways we believe Legion M can change the game for distributing films. The data we receive (i.e. where we pre-sell tickets and how many are sold) will be used by Legion M and our theater bookers to build as large and efficient a release as possible.

Will it work? Time will tell. But the important thing to understand is that the success of this release is not something you have to watch from the sidelines. You can play a role in bringing this movie to your town and making this film – and the company we all own shares in – as successful as possible.

Onward & Upward!
