How our "Girl With No Name" Kickstarter is opening the gates to Hollywood!

Last March and April, we launched our Kickstarter campaign for our Girl With No Name comic book. Ten amazing backers chose the “I’ve Got The Next Great Idea” package, which gives them an opportunity to pitch their idea to the Legion M executive team! We’ve had a few of these meetings so far which have been SO MUCH FUN! Everyone is full of energy and passion about their fantastic ideas. We’ve had the first few pitches already, and here’s what they thought of the whole experience!
Given the fact that pitching the Legion M team could have been a nerve-wracking encounter, especially for someone like me with zero pitching experience, meeting with the team at Legion M was fantastic. The team was relaxed and easy-going, and the conversation was so delightful I soon felt like I was chatting with friends. They were interested, engaged, and enthusiastic, and their support regarding what I'd created was invaluable. The conversation also sparked new perspectives for me to consider (which I loved).
Everyone on the Legion M team is personable and fun, and I left the meeting feeling energized and excited. Regardless of whether or not my project is right for Legion M, I’m even prouder now to be an investor knowing we have such a smart and talented team at the helm. Looking forward to many excellent years ahead for all of us!

All I want to do right now is say how terrible the Skype session was. The old Rob probably would have. If I could convince others it was a waste of time, then the next time that Legion M offers something like this, I could swoop in and sign up for all the slots. Unfortunately, not only did I get a lot of valuable advice during the call, but Jeff, Paul, David, and Terri also helped me sprout a conscience. I must now tell the truth.
I'm skeptical of most things I read on the internet. When I first heard about Legion M, my standard “Trust No One” guards went up. I love that Legion M allowed me to be a part of the community and just observe for as long as I wanted without demanding money. Now, after seeing the excitement they bring to projects, the vision they have for the future -- and most importantly, the way they treat their members -- they’ve got my full buy-in.
Back to the call though—
This was one hell of a talk for me. Although I’ve been writing for years, my partner has always handled the pitches and this was only the second real pitch of my life. The Legion M team let me jump from concept to concept and had a number of great suggestions and ideas for next steps for my projects. I’ve never been so motivated to dive back into a script.
If we could please do another call discussing my diet and exercise choices to get me motivated in that aspect of life, I’ll really be in business.
Thank you for making my life/the world better. I love you guys.

Pitching to Legion M was an amazing experience! Jeff, Paul, Terri and David were all so welcoming and supportive of my ideas. Going into it I was concerned that I would either give too much information and make it hard to follow, or not give enough, but they were very casual and kept me at ease. They seemed to really care about what I was discussing with them and they asked lots of followup questions which gave me the opportunity to expand on my ideas and clarify things when necessary. I could tell that film and comics are a passion for them, not just a business. Even if nothing comes of this, I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything in the world and I really appreciate the support and encouragement from all four of them!

Legion M proved once again the benefit of being a part of this company. The interaction they provide isn't just for show. It's genuine. Having one-on-one time with the team pitching my ideas was the experience of a lifetime. Not only are they everyday people like all of us, but they care and really are looking and wanting the next best idea. They love being one of us. You can tell they love what they do which makes it easier to continue to invest within the organization and further opportunities like the one I just had. I look forward to working with them hopefully one day and always will keep the dream alive.

Now, I’ve never pitched a script before, let alone written one. And some would have said I was crazy to buy the GWNN “I’ve Got The Next Great Idea” package with nothing to pitch, but I’m glad I did. Not only did the idea come, but the pitch meeting was one of the best moments of my life.
Naturally, nerves kicked in the day of and as I was starting to freak out internally. But Jeff, Paul, Terri, & David talked to me like a normal person, like I was one of them, and made me immediately feel comfortable and feel like I could be myself. They let me talk for basically a half hour without breaking in so I could tell them my story. My nerves were at an all-time high as I finished, and then all I heard was amazing, genuine feedback. They were really interested and excited about the idea, even the crazier aspects of it. They gave me the kind of notes that made it better before a single new word even hit the page, and the confidence that I could land this crazy plane, and hopefully have a home for it if I do.
But it wasn’t just their interest in the script, but their genuine interest in me. Hearing the words, “we like the C-Man” may be the four greatest words anyone could have uttered. Whether things work out or not, this experience was worth it just to be able to meet these amazing people who are doing amazing things!

In all honesty, I had just wanted to support GWNN from the beginning. But when I saw the opportunity to present an idea, I just said "F$&@ it. I'll give it a shot."
Given what I know about the industry and even pitching an idea in general (nothing), I was pretty nervous from the start. But after fixing some technical issues on my end, what I thought was going to be a show stopper of embarrassment (for me) ended up being a huge positive learning experience as to why I started supporting Legion M in the first place.
The team was calm, supportive, and most importantly, fun! They had the same drive and passion for entertainment that I saw earlier this year when I volunteered at Wondercon. They listened intently for the entire pitch. They asked some thought-provoking questions, and provided feedback that really showed their knowledge of the industry and its processes! The experience was awesome, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity.
But honestly, the most important thing I got from this was the urge to press on by them. Seeing people actually interested in something you do is a great motivator in itself. Can't wait to meet the rest of the Legion someday. Thank you!
