Coming to theaters for a special advanced screening on Thursday, September 13th is Mandy, a movie being billed as a “wildly phantasmagorical thriller” starring Nicolas Cage. The screening will be followed by a prerecorded Q&A session with Cage and the director of the film, Panos Cosmatos. Mandy received a four-minute long standing ovation at Cannes where it was celebrated in the Director’s Fortnight and became one of the best reviewed films at Sundance where it premiered earlier this year.
Mandy is about two lovers in the Pacific Northwest during the early 1980’s, Red and Mandy, played by Cage and Andrea Riseborough (Birdman; Nocturnal Animals), respectively. After their idyllic life together is torn apart by sadistic cult leader Jeremiah Sands, played by Linus Roach (Watchmen; Batman Begins) Red is sent on a bloody and psychedelic quest for revenge.
