THE STORY
SUMMARY
Valyn, Kaden and Adare, the three grown children of the recently assassinated Annurian Emperor, are scattered across the world, set on different life-paths by their father without explanation. Valyn is training with the Kettral, an elite special ops force that flies covert military missions on giant hawks. Kaden is an acolyte studying the ancient mysteries of the Shin monks high in the Bone Mountains. And Adare remains at home in the Dawn Palace, navigating the complex ins and outs of Annurian politics. With the murder of their father, each has become a potential heir to the throne and target of the same insidious conspiracy responsible for his death. Will sibling rivalry and mistrust keep them apart? Or will they come together to defeat the real enemy threatening the empire and all of humanity...
ABOUT THE BOOKS
The series, which has been translated into twelve languages and grossed over $6.5 million in sales, has garnered numerous awards and nominations, including the David Gemmel award for best fantasy debut, the Reddit award for best fantasy debut, and finalist spots in the Goodreads Choice Awards and Locus Awards for the same accolade.
Unlike other fantasy series, this unique property contains a distinctly modern sensibility with a racially diverse cast, strong female characters who are just as deadly in combat as the men around them and a powerful family drama, all of which tie together with a visual look that promises global appeal.
As non-traditional fantasy for the 21st century, this is not about orcs and elves, but rather about grounded men and women coming of age in extraordinary circumstances.

Brian Staveley
Author
After teaching literature, philosophy, history, and religion for more than a decade, he began writing fiction. His first book, The Emperor’s Blades, won the David Gemmell Morningstar Award, the Reddit Stabby for best debut, and scored semi-finalist spots in the Goodreads Choice Awards in two categories: epic fantasy and debut. The entire trilogy, which includes The Providence of Fire and the The Last Mortal Bond has been translated into over ten languages worldwide.
Brian lives on a steep dirt road in the mountains of southern Vermont, where he divides his time between fathering, writing, husbanding, splitting wood, skiing, and adventuring, not necessarily in that order.
