Stargate My Heart! (Part Two)
THURSDAY: THE PANEL
Stargate Day was officially a go and there was no stopping me! I put on my uniform and headed to the panel. I got there early and sat through two panels beforehand to make sure I had a seat. I saw some other fans in uniform waiting it out as well, and we all silently acknowledged each other.
When it was time for the main event, butterflies were flying... in my belly. I don't think I could have stopped smiling if I tried. Damian Beurer (Legion M) was hosing the panel, and David Read (Gateworld), Sam Toles (Senior Vice President of Digital & New Platforms at MGM), Kieran Dickson (Stargate Consultant & Editorial Director), Stargate Origins writer Mark Ilvedson and director Mercedes Bryce Morgan, were all there as well.
It's hard to remember everything that was said due to having such an out of body experience, but I believe it was Damian who said, “Stargate is back!!” Everyone started cheering, and I thought I was going to cry.
I was dying to know if there was a new TV series coming out. Then they started to describe a new Stargate Command website and how fans could go there to see episodes and interact with each other. I began to feel let down and disappointed. Was that the surprise? Did they just psych us out? Then, right before my hopes were gone, they announced it – there is a new show! I was beside myself. How I kept from crying I don't know. I was screaming, cheering, clapping, and standing up. Hey, if anything deserved a standing ovation, that announcement surely did. I think the room was cheering and celebrating for a while. We were told that Stargate Origins will tell the stories of Catherine Langford, and a quick preview was shown. After the panel, posters for Stargate Origins were passed out. I quickly went to the stage and was lucky enough to get the poster autographed. It will be framed and hanging on my wall shortly.
Come to find out, the new series will be webisodes, with each episode being 10 minutes. I know this is not what Stargate fans really wanted, but you know what? I'm ecstatic that gate travel is continuing and Stargate is back in some form. I believe that we fans need to come together on this, support Stargate Origins, and show MGM that we are serious and want more Stargate!
Afterwards, I walked over to the Side Bar for the Stargate SG-1 20th Anniversary party with Terri L., Damian, Jeff, Paul, and others. All the while I was giving Terri an earfull of my love for Stargate and telling her about Steve. When we got there, the line to get in was already getting full. I found my best bud, JonJon, and fortunately for us, as Legion M, we were on the VIP list to get right in!
